Important Bulletin: Not Accepting Residential Items for Recycling

(UPDATE 3/10/2010) - Retro-Tech is not a recycler for residential electronic products under the State of Illinois new law. We are currently only refurbishing commercial product for placement and resale and can no longer accept TVs or house hold goods for recycling (we will not dispose of them in an environmentally unsafe way).

We continue to accept computer systems and computer parts, however we no longer take non-working computer monitors. Retro Tech can only take items which can be refurbished for placement or resale. We cannot accept items for recycling.

Retro-Tech Recycles

While we still accept electronics donations and refurbish computers and electronics for placements and resale in our outlet, Retro-Tech still supports recycling and responsible disposal of ewaste.

A special note about information left on hard drives. We take all professional steps to ensure that all hard drives from donated systems are cleaned of all data before disposal, including providing a Certificate of Destruction, if requested.

  • TVs and computers can contain an average of four pounds of lead (depending on their size, make, and vintage) as well as other substances of potential concern like chromium, cadmium, mercury, beryllium, nickel, zinc, and brominated flame retardants. These materials need to be handled carefully.
