Due to the collapse of commodity prices for recyclable materials, Retro-Tech will have to increase our recycling fees for 2009. The value of the recoverable materials no longer pay for the costs of collecting, sorting, disassembling & shipping of the materials to recycling centers.

The new rates are detailed on our recycling page. Essentially the costs for monitor and TV recycling will have major increases to $10 or more.

We will now have to charge per item recycled for items we previously accepted for free - $3 each for computers, Laser & Combo Fax/Copy Printers. $1 for printers, scanners, stereos pieces & household appliances.

Please understand that for every $1 recycling fee we collect, Retro-Tech pays approximately $1.79* to recycle materials. We are not making money from this service. We believe in recycling. It is part of our mission.

There are now also some items we can no longer accept. Broken or exposed tubes of any kind will no longer be accepted.

So please don't shoot the messenger, if material prices return to their historical levels we will be quick to return to our old pricing model. But we operate without underwriting and have to absorb the costs into our pricing structure. Recycling is still good for the environment and reuse is still helpful to those in need. Please do not abandon us while we struggle through these tough times.
